The story behind the name
When Michael was a kid, his mom used to press old blue bottles upside down into the garden soil. She said it was for good luck. He never forgot the way they caught the light, the color of a Minnesota lake on a clear summer day, quiet and full of something.
Bottle Blue LLC is a one-person studio founded by Michael Coughlin. The mission has always been simple: build honest, well-crafted software that helps people connect with what actually matters — nature, data, community, and each other.
The best technology doesn't demand your attention. It earns it, then gets out of the way.
Work With UsHow we work
Small team. High standards. No fluff.
Sustainability first
Every product we build is designed with long-term impact in mind. If it doesn't help people live or work better, it doesn't ship.
Built to last
We write real code for real products. Clean APIs, responsive interfaces, and architecture that can grow with the people using it.
People over polish
The best version of any product is one that people actually use. We test, listen, and ship things that genuinely work.
